I’m stepping back from this weekly blog, at least for a while. I started it almost two years ago; last week marked the 100th article. My goal was to share ideas that help people to deepen their thinking in areas of social concern, politics, and especially the spiritual life.
Was the blog successful? I really don’t know. How do you measure success? If measured by the number of readers, I’d have to say no. But maybe it had a good effect on those readers. Some have offered comments that said it was helpful.
I still feel the need to equip Christians to be strong and to fight the good fight against the “principalities and powers” (Ephesians 6:12).
But I’m going to take a break and re-evaluate.
Alice and I met a pastor here in Sherwood. He gave us a paperback book, written by him, on his ministry and beliefs. In it he wrote, in a flippant manner, of how politics, even apparently political issues that had a moral component, were: “Not in my wheelhouse”–meaning he would not get involved. He named other things that were “Not in my wheelhouse.” I thought; “Well, it should be in your wheelhouse. How can we not speak God’s truth to every area?” His attitude, which unfortunately seems to be the norm for tens of millions of evangelicals, helps to explain the mess we’re in. We woke up one day and asked, “How did things get so bad?” It’s because we had a “not in my wheelhouse” mentality. We’ve been too good at not getting involved.
I want to say some things to that.
What will I do now? Take a break. After that, maybe I’ll resume the blog.
But what’s been on my mind the most lately is writing a book which will compile 30-35 of these past blog articles, perhaps re-writing them a bit, adding a few other things, and then putting it out on Amazon self-publishing. I intend for the book to be a prophetic confrontation against progressivism, which has wormed its way into every aspect of American institutions. I see this not as a political battle but as 100% a spiritual battle with political implications.
I will make it known when this book is available.
I would like to know your thoughts about this blog and/or the book idea. You can FB message me or email me at deancoonradt@msn.com.
Thanks for reading, and thanks to those who have expressed encouraging words along the way.
